Why Insulation

Insulation installers Attic Insulation Contractors – Reduce your utility bills by installing additional insulation

Your neighbor is saving money on their utilities!
They just added insulation to their home….
Did you know, an under insulated attic may be the most controllable yet significant source of energy loss in your home. Now is a great time to have your home insulation evaluated!

Do you need additional attic insulation?

It is easy to check your attic insulation. All you need is a flashlight, step ladder, and tape measure. Find your attic access, usually located on your attic ceiling in a hallway or closet. Set up your ladder, left the hatch lid (be careful of falling dust and debris), take your flashlight and tape measure with you as you climb and look into the attic. You should see your attic insulation directly next to you.  If you can see the ceiling rafters, you need insulation!

Then measure the depth of the insulation from the ceiling. If your insulation is cellulose (recycled newsprint) you should measure at least 9 to 10 inches of depth. If your insulation is fiberglass ( a  cottony fiber, various colors) you should measure at least 16 to 17 inches of depth.

The recommended R-value for an existing home is R-49. This is based on an analysis of cost effectiveness, using average local energy prices, regional average insulation costs, equipment efficiencies, climate factors, and energy savings for both the heating and cooling seasons. An R-49 in cellulose is approximately 11 inches. An R-49 in fiberglass is approximately 25 inches. It is also important to check that the existing insulation is evenly distributed with no low spots; sometimes there is enough insulation in the middle of the attic and very little along the eaves.
